Known as the clearest lake in the world, Waldo Lake sits high amidst the volcanic peaks of the Pacific Cascades. Using underwater photography, this image was made from beneath the surface of the turquoise blue lake.
Deeper than 400 feet in places, it's sometimes difficult to tell exactly how deep the lake is because the water is so clear. With a basin sculpted by receeding glaciers during the last ice-age ending about 10,000 years ago, Waldo Lake is the second deepest natural lake in Oregon.
