Fair-Trade Statement: For several years now, our supplier has been cooperating with a jewelry workshop in India. It was founded when the owner of the workshop was approached by a young goldsmith who could not find work, but was quite skilled. The workshop is clean and the workers are not only paid fairly, but also receive free lodging in a new, clean house, as well as free clothing. This allows them to save more money for their families who live in one of the poorest provinces in India. Our supplier has been quite impressed with the joy and camaraderie amongst these young goldsmiths. Especially telling of the good conditions at this workshop is that even when other jobs are offered to these skilled craftspeople, they refuse to leave because they like their work environment so much.
